Hartmut Ringel Résumé
I was born in 1970 in West Germany. I studied geography but soon changed to an apprenticeship in a joiner’s workshop where I learned the fine handling of wood and to build individual pieces of furniture. With a degree in fine cabinet making, I traveled as a journeyman and worked in many shops all over Europe. This is the time after the iron curtain had come down. I journeyed and worked in East Germany and Eastern Europe a lot and witnessed the huge transformation that took place in the country, the continent and in a lot of us and certainly in me.
From 1998 to 2002 I studied art and design at the art college Angewandte Kunst Schneeberg in Saxony. In the following, I co-founded the design studio “Studio Hartensteiner” in Leipzig, Germany.
On the occasion of a spiritual retreat, I came with my wife and my son to Wisconsin in 2004. We liked it here and stayed. In the first years in the States, I dropped my expression through art and only worked privately on some projects. In recent years though, art has been coming back to me more and more. At this time I am represented by the Wantoot Gallery in Mineral Point, and by companies in Germany.
