The depiction of animals has reflected a universal symbol throughout time. The earliest humans looked to the spirit of the animal as a way to express community. Even in modern times, the symbol of animals continues to form an important part of our collective imagination. I portray animals in my work to integrate a timeless form into themes of a wider environment, both politically and humanistically. I see my broad, gestural brushstroke as a way to capture the dynamism and interconnectedness of the vast animal kingdom. At the same time, by making these marks as a painter, I hope to visually connect my images to bring about representation for balance and harmony for the betterment of all living creatures.
