Rick Graves makes tightly focused photographs of aging industrial, architectural, and everyday details. Removed from their original context, the images are often abstractions of light, color, and form.
With formal training in the performing arts, Rick is interested in how the movement of light and form create motion and emotion. With a background in film photography, his work is in sharp focus, with full-tonal-range, and presented with little or no manipulation. Images are printed in-house (with the exception of metal prints, which are sent to a lab in Saint Louis).
He also collaborates with his wife Joni, printing book covers (his photography or images provided by clients); preparing and finishing the wood used for matched-grain covers; and creating custom tools that support her work.
