As a contemporary oil painter, Paula thinks it is her job to experiment with the rules and fiddle with traditional art concepts. Her works have been described as atmospheric, introspective, and unexpected. She likes to think of her paintings as fragments of lost narratives, bits of films, stray snapshots, or mistranslated textbooks open to re-telling and recombining.
Paula grew up in Chicago, spending summers on her family’s farm in Wyoming Township. She has a BFA in Film from NYU, an MA in Humanities from the U of Chicago, and a BFA Honors degree in painting from the National Art School, Sydney. In 2019, after living in Australia for 25 years, she moved to Spring Green where she has a home studio and gallery in her quirky old house.
