Pure unabashed color is my theme. I use acrylics, oils, and chalk pastels to bring the world of my imagination to life. I apply color to canvas, paper, wood panels, functional and found objects. I make art for the wall, art for the home, art for the dead, and art for no reason at all.
In my youth I attended The College of Design at the University of Minnesota where I learned to draw, apply color theory, and create compositions. I then forgot to make art for the next twenty years. I returned to my brushes and pencils and paints after moving to a home in the Driftless. Inspired by the landscapes and the light I was compelled to set up a studio and get back to work.
I am influenced by the artists of the late Seventies New York art scene (think Haring, Warhol, Basquiat) And am continually inspired by music, poetry, nature, and architecture. In my work I explore themes of religion, symbolism, passion and mortality; sometimes serious, sometimes a bit of foolish circus.
It is my hope that my art will at the least make you smile, perhaps delight your senses, and hopefully inspire you to forge a path to your own creativity.
Art is many things, for me it is joy.
