Carole continues to create portraits of family and friends. She asks the sitter to select one of the many dramatic characters found in a pair of 16th century Italian frescoes – Luca Signorelli’s “The Damned” and “The Elect” – and briefly adopt that pose while she takes a photo. Working with watercolor, colored pencil, wax crayon, and acrylic gouache, she’s loving the back-and-forth way of alternately painting and drawing to generate a representational image. Carole also indulges in her passion for fiber art. You can expect to encounter both functional and decorative pieces in a variety of materials and techniques.

Carole grew up with educator parents and no television, so since childhood she’s been making things in 2D and 3D. She graduated from Bates College (ME) with a BA in Fine Art and earned her MA and MFA from the University at Albany (NY).

After graduate school, Carole lived in Manhattan, New York City for 17 years where she was assistant coordinator for the state university system’s Studio Semester in New York program.

She’s retired from her Senior Lecturer position in the Art area at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville as well as from being Program Director with Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts, and is now enjoying life as a full-time artist, musician, workshop leader, and gallerist – Carole and her partner, painter Richard Moninski, own and operate Green Lantern Studios, a gallery of fine art and handicrafts in Mineral Point.

Recent exhibitions include work at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend), The Pump House (La Crosse), the Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery (Platteville) and other regional venues.
