I am drawn to the art of assemblage. It is the manipulation of objects in order to inspire a silent conversation, similar to the way in which paint is applied by a painter, or graphite smudges trailing behind a pencil are formulated by a draftsman, or metals are made malleable by a metalsmith or welder. Objects possess form, and in most cases an original purpose. Manipulating objects into new forms, often combining and/or juxtaposing their original intended purpose, I most often begin a piece with one specific object that captures my interest; usually because of it’s aesthetic qualities, but sometimes because of it’s conceptual importance. Beginning with that object, I then work with other objects to create a new composition which tells a story, that almost always is founded in rhetoric concerning the natural cycle of life on this beautiful planet. My work is first and foremost about (my perception of) beauty. It is a tactile expression of my thoughts on existential questions.
